Friendlyness of all the staff, this is a fabulous hotel for great birthday treat

  • Older travelers

wonderful food, beautiful outlook and attractive rooms but very unconfortable single beds, complained and boards put under matresses which improved things but we felt in a 4 star hotel good beds are to be expected.

We have stayed at the Cavendish before,so we knew what to expect. The rate was particularly attractive this time. The attention to detail is impressive.

Perfect stay over for me and my teenage daughter. Our reason for staying was to visit Chatsworth and it is wonderfully close. Also, we loved the walk you can take from the hotel to the house. Beautiful position, with lovely views of the Peak District. Shame about the road, but most of the time you are not aware of it. Will definitely be back

    it was a pleasant location

it was over priced, and there were very few facilities on offer. the food in the gallery restaurant was very disappointing, very little flavour in the food and tiny portions.

I have been staying in hotels for 50 years, and this is probably the best I have ever stayed in

For the price - not much

A Negative Review is a complaint! For this price, we found it to be a sharp practice that in small print at the bottom of the printout was that it was nearly £20 per person extra for breakfast (nearly a third extra!) and also it is sharp practice to put a 5% surcharge added to the bill without any prior information. The evening meal may have been gourmet for all we knew but we chose to eat elsewhere due to this reason. Additionally whilst the room was OK - it was not up to the price range. A minor point but when we pulled back the bed spread we found a small tear in the sheet.

  • Older travelers

The staff were excellent and the owner, Eric Marsh, went out of his wayto personally wewlcome his guests. The dining room was the most beauitiful we have ever come across with food and service to match.

  • Older travelers
    9.2

We loved the hotel and it's location but our stay was marred by the food. We made our choice based on the delicious online menu and were disappointed by the restricted choices on the day. Obviously that is bad luck, but all the food was exceedingly bland. My duck breast came with two small slices of meat and a mere teaspoon of the interesting described cabbage. My husband had three tiny bits of meat, all with bone, in his coq au vin. Over all, bland food, tiny portions and a disappointing menu selection on our visit meant we did not deem our stay as value for money.

Chosen for the proximity to Chatworth and Mitford connections, the stunning view over green fields, with cows and calves and not a building in sight, made the stay blissfully peaceful. The staff were friendly, attentive and courteous and the food was delicious. The combination of the two restaurants works brilliantly and the afternoon tea was one of the best we have ever had. I could have stayed there a month. Bakewell and the surrounding villages are charming, the shopping is fun and the scenery beautiful for walks.brilliant.

    The view

I brought elderly relatives to stay and recognise thew access limitations of an historic (and charming) building such as this. However, disabled parking spaces close to the entrance would make life easier.

Very good views over country estate.

Attempting to be high quality simply by charging excessive rates - but not providing a service to match. I was able to write the word 'dust' in the dust on the fan, the toilet needed to be cleaned properly. If you want breakfast they charge extra ( a massive £18.95!) for what is a basic spread that would be provided as standard in any quality hotel. This hotel is for the daft, not the discerning.

  • Family with children

very helpful and attentive staff, the view from the rooms, the rooms themselves; the hotel decor and the general feel of the place is very agreeable; excellent breakfasts (the yoghurt, in particular, sent us into ecstasies)

mattress was very soft and bowed

After several days of hard work with clients, staying at the Cavendish was a reward to myself. The views and location (walking distance to Chatsworth) were wonderful, and I appreciated the friendly professionalism of the staff and the thoughtful touches eg fresh milk in the bedroom and books, including The Wind in the Willows, an all-time favourite of mine! The food was good too.

  • Older travelers

The Cavendish is a very comfortable and enjoyable hotel. The staff are always very helpfull.

I always try and avoid eating in the hotel because the cost of thr food is exorbitant. Having to go out for breakfast is a new experience but I did not want to pay £40 for my wife and I to have a very mediocre breakfast.
